Fort Recovery softball nabs its first conference win | Sports | thecr.com – The Commercial Review

VERSAILLES, Ohio — It’s been a tough go for the Indians this season.
But they finally broke through to get coach Alyssa Lewis her first Midwest Athletic Conference win.
The Fort Recovery High School softball team took down the Versailles Tigers 18-15 on Thursday to snap a 14-game losing streak.
The Indians (2-16, 1-4 MAC) got off to a slow start to go down 9-3 by the fifth inning. They had two big innings, scoring seven runs in the fifth and seventh, to overtake the Tigers (8-14, 1-4 MAC).
Kayla Gaerke, Mara Wendel and Alexis Grisez all collected four hits apiece in the victory. They combined for nine runs and seven RBIs as well.
Ivy Tobe led FRHS by driving in four runs.
Grisez earned the win in 4 ⅔ innings in the circle. She gave up nine runs, three of which were earned, on seven walks and six hits. Claire Gaerke threw the final 2 ⅓ innings.
Prior to Thursday’s win, the Tribe last beat Bradford on March 27.
Slip ended
MONROE — The Jay County softball team made quick work of the Adams Central Jets 16-0 on Thursday to get back in the win column after its first two losses of the year.
The Patriots (8-2, 1-0 Allen County Athletic Conference) scored two runs in the first inning and another in the second before exploding for eight in the third.
Brenna Ruble raked for JCHS with two home runs and a double for six RBIs. She scored three times as well.
Hallie Schwieterman also had a strong day with four hits, including a home run and two doubles, to drive in another three runs.
Carley Trinidad shut down the Jets (1-9, 0-3 ACAC) by striking out 12 batters over four innings. The junior allowed just three hits.
Zoe McLaughlin threw the final inning for the Patriots without allowing a runner.
Schemenaur leads
MONROE — Jay County’s baseball team continued its ACAC success with an 11-1 defeat of the Adams Central Jets on Thursday.
The Patriots (6-4, 2-0 ACAC) got on the board in the second as Drew Schemenaur hit a double, stole third base and advanced on an error. JCHS then put up five runs on Adams Central (3-9, 1-1 ACAC) to take control in the third inning.
Schemenaur and Joe Geesaman had the strongest days at the plate for the Patriots with a combined seven hits and six RBIs.
Geesaman also handled business on the rubber with five strikeouts and one earned run over five innings of work. Aiden Phillips took the mound in the sixth and didn’t allow a runner while striking out two batters.
Tribe falls
FORT RECOVERY — The Fort Recovery baseball team suffered its second MAC loss of the season at the hands of the Versailles Tigers 14-3 on Thursday.
The Tribe (10-5, 4-2 MAC) got on the board first on an Alex Gaerke single in the bottom of the first inning.
The tide started to turn in the third as four runs crossed for Versailles (15-6, 4-2 MAC). FRHS took two runs back on a sacrifice fly from Gaerke and a Caden Homan single but went cold after that. The Tigers proceeded to put up six runs in the fifth inning and four in the sixth to end the game early.
While Gaerke powered the Indians’ offense, he couldn’t slow VHS down from the mound as he gave up 12 runs, five of which were earned, on six hits and five walks. He threw 5 ⅓ innings, while Homan gave up two runs in the final ⅔ of an inning.
Jay no-hits McCulloch
MARION — The Jay County Junior High School eighth grade baseball team beat McCulloch 14-0 on Thursday.
Eli Westgerdes, Roman Clamme and Jaylen Brown combined to pitch a no-hitter against McCulloch over five innings.
The Patriots (5-0-1) got extra-base hits from Sawyer Smitley and Kendel Glessner. The former hit a triple, while the latter smacked a double.
Jay County also got hits from Eli Homan, Andrew Myers, Brown, Westgerdes and Easton Johnson. It drew 10 walks as well.
Patriots defeated
Jay County Junior High School’s seventh grade baseball team fell to the Blackford Bruins 8-3 on Thursday.
The Patriots (4-3) collected just four hits on the night, all of which were singles. Those hits belonged to Benton Langenkamp, Cade Wright, Parker Wasson and Ryker Price.
Offense thrives
MUNCIE — The Portland 10-and-younger All-Stars softball team beat Delta in a pair of games on Thursday.
Annabelle Wiggins and Josey Snow led Portland with two RBIs in the 13-6 victory to open the night. Ivy Trinidad drove in a run on a home run, while Ava Lochtefeld, Emily Geesaman, Skye Ingram and Charlee Taylor all drove in runs as well.
Ingram earned the win in the circle by throwing two innings and recording three strikeouts.
The All-Stars won the second game 12-6 with Trinidad, Geesaman and Ingram driving in two runs. Snow, Emree Spoonemore and Renlee Hummer all pushed a run across as well.
Geesaman picked up the win in game No. 2.
Portland wins
The Portland 8-and-younger All-Stars softball team beat Monroe Central Brown 24-0 on Thursday.
Maddie Theurer, Addison Root, Hayden Guggenbiller, Hadleigh Walker, Allison Hardesty and Kaelyana Castillo all had a perfect day at the plate going 4-for-4. Guggenbiller raced around the bases for an inside-the-park home run, while Theurer and Root each added a double.
Nora Stultz, Autumn Murphy and Isabella Farvel all added three hits, while Isla Cook and Hattie Spoonemore each had two hits.
