AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – The Hale Foundation celebrated 36 years of helping men suffering from substance abuse with a groundbreaking ceremony for a new facility.
The Frank Hull Hall on Walker Street will help men recover from addiction and get themselves back on their feet.
Deke Copenhaver, director of Augusta Long-Term Recovery, said the need for services increased after Hurricane Helene.
Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines is stepping in to help stranded travelers after the sudden shutdown of Spirit Airlines, offering discounted “rescue fares” for passengers scrambling to rebook flights.
“People with addiction, they are our neighbors too, so after the hurricane, there was a spike in overdoses and relapses for two weeks because people couldn’t get access to care,” Copenhaver said. “So I tell people that everything we do in our community doesn’t matter if you are an addict, doesn’t matter if you are our neighbors, and so we are here to take care of you.”
The program also provides other resources and is looking for clothing donations.
