An Iowa sailor contributed to the recovery of astronauts and their spacecraft following a historic NASA mission orbiting the moon.
When Artemis II astronauts splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on April 10, U.S. Navy crews were there to bring them home.
Petty Officer Second Class Cody Dooley, of Fort Dodge, helped recover the crew and the Orion capsule as part of a trauma response team during the mission.
NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen, completed their journey in just over nine days.
Dooley said the values he learned growing up in Iowa helped prepare him for the job. He is a 2010 graduate of Fort Dodge Senior High.
