OREGON – Tucker Hill’s recovery from a 2024 wildfire is showing early signs of progress as native grasses and perennial forbs spread across the burn scar and newly planted sagebrush begins to take hold.
The fires scorched more than 800 acres of land southeast of Paisley. Crews recently planted sagebrush plugs as part of a multi-year effort to help the high desert rebound.
“Our goal is to give this area the best possible chance to return to the sagebrush steppe ecosystem that wildlife depends on,” Oliver said. Oliver is a Bureau of Land Management natural resource specialist. “Every plug we put in the ground is an investment in what this place will look like decades from now.”
The Institute for Applied Ecology and Coffee Creek Correctional Facility grew thousands of sagebrush seedlings for the project.
