King Jims is a gospel rapper born and bred in London UK with an eclectic taste in music. He has dabbled with a few different sounds but has recently started making Gospel Drum and Bass (DnB).
DnB is a genre that Jims has always loved from a young age way back to when his brother gave him a set of Numark turntables with a load of 90s DnB vinyls. He never learned how to DJ but always loved listening to music and going to raves. When King Jims got saved in 2014, he longed to hear Christian DnB and while the gospel is represented across many genres DnB is still very slim.
King Jims recently teamed up with Cerose and Angler to release their first DnB track entitled “Depraved.” This track tackles the topics of the sinfulness of humanity and the goodness of God in sending His Son to save sinners.
Angler is on the second verse and has been a DnB MC for many years and before getting saved was formerly known as MC Frosty. It was Angler who encouraged Jims to start writing to DnB. He wasn’t sure at first but as he started to practice writing more, he found that he loved writing to DnB and soon enough they had “Depraved.”
King Jims has collaborated with Blazer and Kuzi to release his next DnB track entitled “Running” which will come next week. “Running” has a very different sound to “Depraved” as it is graced with the soulful vocals of Kuzi on the chorus, Blazer with her techy flows, and Jims with a laid-back style. “Running” is a song that speaks of the believer facing battles in the Christian walk and even though we run to different things, God remains constant in calling us to Himself.
Blazer is also someone who has been MC’ing for many years in the DnB scene. She has chosen to keep the same name as although it once meant something different, she is now on fire for Jesus! Be on the lookout for more Gospel DnB as these guys are at work to bring more tunes for us.
We can see that God used hip hop in a big way to reach Jims so he prays God will be glorified and souls saved for those who listen to this new genre that carries the Gospel.
