Once dried out now at 52%, dam in central Türkiye shows strong recovery – Türkiye Today

The 4 Eylul Dam in Sivas, which had previously nearly dried out due to severe drought conditions, has now recovered significantly.
The dam has reached a water level of 52% following months of heavy rainfall and snowmelt.
The reservoir, which experienced critically low levels in recent years, including a drop to 1.31% in April 2024, has seen a steady rise this year thanks to sustained precipitation during the winter and spring seasons.
In May 2025, the level was recorded at just 9.61%, highlighting the scale of the recent recovery.
Officials attribute the increase to strong seasonal rainfall combined with improved water management and reduced losses in the distribution system.
Sivas Mayor Adem Uzun noted that the dam, once “almost completely empty,” has undergone a notable natural and operational recovery.
Authorities also stated that concerns regarding leaks or structural damage are unfounded, confirming that no cracks or water loss have been detected at the reservoir.
The 4 Eylul Dam continues to serve as a critical water source for the city of Sivas, with officials expressing cautious optimism that levels could approach 60% in the coming months if rainfall persists.
