EL CENTRO — The Imperial County Board of Supervisors approved an amendment to a prior agreement with Open Door Ministry for the Broken on Tuesday, May 5.
The county’s previous agreement with Open Door Ministry provided six beds for women with substance use disorders (SUD) to receive treatment while recovering and transitioning to a more permanent living environment. The amendment extends the previously approved women’s beds into June of 2027 and incorporates an additional eight beds for men.
Director of Behavioral Health Services, Leticia Plancarte-Garcia, requested the amendment that will increase the original agreement amount to almost $300,000. There is no impact on the county general fund, as expenses related to the new agreement are funded through state aid funds under the Substance Use Grant Block.
While the women’s beds are located at a home in El Centro, the additional men’s space is located in Calexico. This agreement offers a total of 14 beds to be utilized by patients with SUDs who are referred from Imperial County Behavioral Health Services. The agreement includes budgeted rates for about 30 children who may accompany the resident to the home. Children are budgeted at $50 per month.
Open Door Ministry for the Broken is a privately owned home that provides room and board services to adult men and women who are in need of a stable and safe living environment to support the recovery from an SUD. By providing faith-based transitional housing, the organization teaches life skills, reconnects individuals with SUDs with their families, and empowers individuals to overcome their past struggles.
Individuals at Open Door Ministry receive counseling; mental, emotional, and spiritual support; and access to outside resources for job training, educational programs, trade schools, health and wellness services, and childcare.
Open Door Ministry’s community efforts are aimed at reducing the homeless population of SUD individuals, implementing effective risk management strategies to ensure individuals are successful, and promoting public safety.
