Sunday marked two years since dozens of tornadoes tore across the state.
The tornadoes began in Nebraska before moving into Iowa. In total, 16 twisters formed in Central or southern Iowa, and eight in far western Iowa. Four tornadoes were rated EF-3.
That includes the tornado that ripped through Minden, killing one person and destroying around 50 homes.
That twister was on the ground nearly 41 miles and reached peak wind speeds of 160 miles an hour.
Minden has seen dozens of homes rebuilt for residents. While they’re still working to fund projects like the town’s baseball field, the town has made significant progress rebuilding what was once there.
Minden is planning a big celebration this summer, a year after its official 150th anniversary. Organizers say it’s a chance to celebrate the next chapter in Minden’s history.
