Multi-genre artist and global dance sensation, John Summit, and dance music virtuoso and drum & bass pioneer Sub Focus have teamed up on “Go Back” featuring electro-soul songstress Julia Church. The new track is out now via via Darkroom/Experts Only, a house, tech-house, and techno music label & events brand founded by Summit. Listen to the track now below.
“Go Back” sees Summit and Sub Focus at their best. The hot new track seamlessly integrates Church’s strong, yet entrancing vocals and uniquely fuses elements of both the house and drum and bass genres into a tempo-building, energy filled electronic landscape sure to get listeners’ hearts racing. Reminiscing on a nostalgic moment, Summit, Sub Focus, and Church have masterfully crafted an anthem sure to withstand the test of time.
On “Go Back,” Summit shares, “I’ve always loved drum and bass and knew I wanted to combine my sound with it somehow. As a fan of Sub Focus and his use of combining strong vocals with infectious melodies, similarly to my style, I knew there was potential. Being able to come together and truly combine our two styles worked out even better than we both anticipated. Seeing the crowds’ reactions to our production + Julia Church’s incredible vocals has been unreal!”
Additionally, Sub Focus shares, “I’ve always thought mine and John’s styles were quite similar but we lived in different genres so I was excited to get the chance to work together when he was over here on tour. We came up with the idea of speeding up the tempo in the middle of the song between House and Drum n Bass inspired by a drum and bass remix of Lil Louis – French Kiss that I used to love back in the day. It’s been amazing to see crowds from around the world respond to the song and the energy uplift that this tempo change creates.”
John Summit has been on a tear. After hitting Miami for an audience-filled headlining performance at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix along with two electrifying sets at Coachella – with Dom Dolla as Everything Always and a solo set closing out the Sahara Tent as one of the headlining acts. His latest singles, “EAT THE BASS” and magical collaboration “Shiver” with hotly tipped and in demand UK artist/singer & songwriter Hayla, have made waves on dance floors everywhere. He’s set to hit the road on a global run of shows with stops in Las Vegas, Toronto, New York, and more.
His rise in the dance music scene has been nothing short of meteoric, being the only DJ named in Forbes 30 under 30 list along with a significant callout as the next “dance music sensation” in Rolling Stone’s Future 25, selling out his first stadium headline show (22,000 tickets) at Los Angeles’ BMO Stadium last December, and announcing the sell out of his July Madison Square Garden headline less than two hours after tickets went on-sale.
