MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – The Shelby County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency along with the Federal Emergency Management Agency announced they are opening a Mobile Disaster Recovery Center on May 2.
Representatives from FEMA will be in Shelby County to offer in-person assistance for residents that were affected by Winter Storm Fern this January.
“By bringing FEMA directly into the community, we are making it easier for individuals and families to get the assistance they need to begin moving forward. The Memphis Area Transit Authority, MATA, is still offering their Zero Fare Program, allowing passengers to ride all MATA services at no cost,” Director Brenda Jones of the Shelby County Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency said.
FEMA will be available at 1075 Mullins Station Road Memphis, TN 38134. The event will run Saturday and Sunday, May 2 & 3 through the weekend of May 9 and 10.
The event is going on from 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Monday to Saturday. The event will be open Sundays 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Before you go, you are encouraged to bring the following items: a valid photo ID, proof of occupancy (MLGW bill, lease agreement, etc.), proof of ownership (mortgage statements, property tax receipt, deeds, etc.), insurance information (homeowner’s, renter’s, flood), photos or documentation of damage, receipts for disaster-related expenses, social security number.
The following types of assistance are available: temporary housing assistance, home repair or replacement assistance, other needs assistance (medical or dental costs, funeral expenses, personal property replacement like appliances, furniture or clothing, transportation repairs or replacement, childcare expenses), and disaster case management and referrals.
There is no cost to apply for FEMA assistance. Applying for FEMA assistance does not require repayment of funds if they are used for the intended purposes.
There is disaster assistance for small businesses available the Small Business Administration website as well.
“Mobile Disaster Recovery Centers are locations where those affected by the Winter Storm in January can visit if they need in-person support applying for FEMA Individual Assistance understanding their application status, resolving issues with an application, or accessing other resources,” Director Jones said.
